cameraman

For my daughter's birthday, we rented a pair a motel rooms so we could use their swimming pool. (Lack of affordable swimming is an east coast thing; you either "join" a pool or IF there is a public pool close by, the city has probably closed it.)
Where does this guy fit in? The girls were playing in the pool and one of them spotted him on the roof. He was obviously working for the hotel because he was with other motel staff but still... there was something about him. So I took pictures of him. And then he took pictures of me taking pictures. I often take the full scope of human communication for granted and the image excited me because he was very far away and yet so seemingly easy to "read". (As I probably was!)
I'll be checking their website soon for unauthorized photos of the girls playing in the water.
I made this image into a painting because I like some of the fx, i.e. the windows. I should have made the spotlight a bit smaller because I really didn't want attention drawn to his crotch and it might have fit more uniformally in the frame. I guess that's what happens with photo-editing on the run!

Post-Toasted Part Deux

If you know me, then you know the recent misery bestowed upon our house in Philly. The chimney collasped and then a torrential rain flooded many rooms with nasty sooty water. Ah... there's no place like home. Really.

I did get around to writing about a few of my images but for the most part, I've been looking for responses; checking in and scrolling and leaving. My little walk-thru gallery. I am one of those who suffers when I don't take time to create and I am feeling a build-up of energy. I suspect it's an East coast September-thing. "Real life" happens between September and May; June, July and August are about getting the heck away or being left behind to swelter in the city. I am very grateful for our Shore house but it makes it too easy to forget that I an urgent situation that needs my attention. I will be returning to Philly for the weekend... and running away again ASAP to squeeze the last of the summer out.

I am hopeful that our home will "phoenix" from the ick. A new life for us all. -D

Post-Toasted

Ok. It's obvious I figured out how to publish my artwork. In fact, I felt compelled to throw a ton of it on my blog; I guess I wanted to make sure that every type of image I make is here. Now what?

I guess I'll write about them when I get to it. I'm going away for a couple of weeks and I'll have minimal access. Might be a good time just to look and think.

All of the images on this blog are original photographs taken with my hp photosmart 715 and altered by Photoshop 6. Most are from 2003-2004; some are from "The Parkway Series" which is a set of 9 images that I sell for retail (cards, prints). Just an FYI.

I do hope you like my work. -DMC

Question is: is this how I feel or is it how I wish I felt? Both.

Mamma's Got a Brand New Blog

and I'm finding it to be as frustrating as everything else! Loading images has been hit-or-miss; guess I should just write about whatever image happens to appear. Feeling lucky? Hey, at least I'm not bitching about the things I cannot change, or not finding the courage to just DO IT MYSELF, or pontificating about wisdom that obviously hasn't soaked in.

It's really not that dramatic. Really. I mean really Really. (Last bit was my impersonation of denial... )

If you know me, you know enough already. If you are an acquaintance or a happen-stance stranger, feel free to ask questions. Reading cryptic references just doesn't sound fun and this is meant to be an uplifting blog. Really. I am absolutely serious.

So, folks, welcome to my blog. Drink your orange juice and try to smell something different each day.

Peace, Denise

Chaos

New to Blogging

At last, I've gotten an image to load.

This picture was given to a Finnish opera company. I had tried to explain to the Friendly Finns my feelings about 9/11 and about my oldest son joining the army.

This is one of three.

And my son has been home from Iraq for about 9 months now...

God Bless Photoshop.
