Like a Switch...
Namaste, Cyber-Universe. Hey ya, Cyber-Self.
I must first apologize in advance for being vague. I've been struggling with some personal BS that I would just as soon not worsen but I am also compelled to write. Somewhere in this mess, people have decided to take it upon themselves to "enlighten" me with their insights into my life (yet they somehow don't see their own shit) and I've just have had enough. I PAY someone to work with me on my shit; I don't consider anyone else to be qualified professionally.
I had one particular person get in my face and call me stupid. That was followed by the classic, "What makes YOU so special?" Well, let me list a few things:
1) I am fundamentally a kind, loving and enthusiastic person; I can be abrasive but forgiveable.
2) I've learned not to tell other people (besides family) what to do with their lives no matter how badly they seem to be living.
3) I've been a good mother to my children.
4) I am a talented massage therapist and artist in general.
5) I am free of racism and I try to be free of judgement or malice (focus on "try").
6) I would never stick my finger in another person's face and say that they are stupid or that they deserve less...
That's all I can think of right now. At the time, I did hold my ground, even getting to the point of suggesting that they take a look in the mirror. Or that they stop and consider that they really don't know what lies the hearts and minds of those around us. I'm not so much angry as appalled at the ugliness, pettiness, cynicism, and ill-will that can reside within a person and how eagerly they want to pass it along.
My challenge is to not get infected.
So... I'm flipping the switch to "off" on some of the noise around me. I'll let you know if it does any good.
Have a safe and cool weekend, Cyber-Self. Be kind to the ones you love, Cyber-Universe.
XO-D

That sucks. But it sounds like you handled it perfectly. And hopefully your refusal to respond in kind stuck with them and they learned from the exchange. And what a gift to be able to turn that switch! That's definitely a key to keeping your sanity! :-)
